Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax
Nia has to destroy Sasha Banks. Not sure if that means she actually gets a win. Probably more likely is Nia gets DQ’ed while punishing Sasha.
Winner: Sasha Banks via DQ
Cesaro and Sheamus vs. The Club
Two refs in this match. It’s gotta lead to a No-Contest or Tie right? One ref thinks Sheamus/Cesaro are the winners, the other thinks The Club are the winners.
Winner: No Contest
Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, Naomi vs. Alexa Bliss, Mickie James, Natalya
Looks like a great opportunity to get Mickie James a win and re-establish her as force in WWE. She should get the pin and look great in the process.
Winner: Alexa Bliss, Mickie James, Natalya
With six hours of television being devoted to RAW, SmackDown, and NXT each week I haven’t been able to make a commitment to 205 Live! yet. So most of what I’ve seen about this feud has been on RAW or the recaps on RAW. I’m looking forward to the match though, especially if they can get 15 minutes or so in. Angry Neville has been great and Rich Swann is entertaining as all get out.
Not sure where to go here with a prediction. I’d like to see Rich Swann retain to give him some more credibility and the championship a little stability. On the other hand, Neville winning the championship in his first opportunity would make him look truly dominant in the Cruiserweight division, and I always like wrestling with a dominant heel. If this were me, I’d be looking at a Neville vs. Cedric Alexander match for the championship at WrestleMania. So Neville winning here would be a good start to set that up, but I just get the feeling Swann retains here and if a title switch needs to be made it can happen on 205 Live.
Winner: Rich Swann
Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley
Bayley winning the Women’s Championship in her first real opportunity seems like a terrible idea. I’m not sure she’s the ultimate underdog but I do think she is the ultimate loveable loser. People will sympathize with always climbing up the mountain just to come up short. That’s what gave her a majority of her popularity in NXT and that’s what made her rivalry with Sasha Banks in NXT so memorable. She had fallen short so many times that when she finally defeated Sasha for the championship it felt like a big deal. Bayley needs that same type of story on the main roster. It can, and probably should, vary a little bit but the same basic premise should stick. Winning right away at the Royal Rumble would accomplish none of that.
Winner: Charlotte Flair
Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns
Kevin Owens won the Universal Championship a couple weeks after SummerSlam in a Four-Way Elimination match because Triple H came out to interfere with the match. Seemingly out to help Seth Rollins, Triple H turned on Rollins and signaled to Owens to pin him for the win and the title. Triple H basically handed Owens the Universal Championship but the reason why was never explained.
That lack of explanation has been a cloud over Owens’ entire championship reign. It was hard to really invest in his championship reign until Triple H returned to explain his reasoning. Surely that would lead to a different feud with a major payoff. We just had to bide some time until Triple H returned and explained himself.
But then Triple H never returned. He never came back to explain himself or why Owens was awarded the championship. And even when Triple H and his actions were mentioned on TV it was more directed at Seth Rollins, not Kevin Owens.
Kevin Owens’ entire championship run so far has felt like he’s treading water until Triple H reappeared. The problem is though you can only tread water for so long. Triple H never returning has sunk Kevin Owens in my eyes. Which is a shame because I’ve been a big Kevin Owens guy since his first night on NXT. His first championship reign could have been fantastic, but it’s been pretty disappointing.
I’m ready for the championship to go somewhere else that will give it a purpose. I’m not sure I’m ready for a Roman Reigns championship run but at least it’s something. I really wish Elimination Chamber was a RAW event. Then you could get the belt off Kevin Owens there instead of here to Reigns. I just can’t tread water any longer though, especially if HHH is just going to feud with Seth Rollins in his return.
Winner: Roman Reigns
AJ Styles vs. John Cena
I’m hearing a lot of people say Cena is going to win this one, some even going as far to almost imply that Cena winning on Sunday is a foregone conclusion. I’m on the other side of the fence though. This should be another AJ Styles victory. Hypothetically if Cena wins, isn’t the only match that you could set up at WrestleMania John Cena vs. The Undertaker for the WWE Championship? I don’t think you could run back Cena/Styles again, and I’m not too excited for Cena/Corbin, Cena/Miz, or Cena/Orton. You could maybe talk me into Cena/Ziggler but I’d be in the minority there. So if Cena wins I only see John Cena vs. The Undertaker and that match is just as big at WrestleMania without the Championship on the line.
I guess my actual WrestleMania prediction of a AJ/Cena/Undertaker Triple Threat at WrestleMania could still work with John Cena as the champ. But if it’s any type of singles match then AJ Styles as the champion at WrestleMania makes the most sense to me. Styles should get the win over John Cena again on Sunday and then complain for 3 weeks that he has to defend his championship again against 5 other men at the Elimination Chamber, only to come out victorious again. AJ would look invincible heading into WrestleMania.
Winner: AJ Styles
