Add in what they’ve been doing recently and I’m really excited about what could be coming to The Network in the near future. These mid-week specials they’ve been putting on the Network have been outstanding. I did not get to see The King of the Ring live but just throwing that in during the middle of a week is awesome. Now to me, the whole thing seemed thrown together quick with little planning just designed to draw some quick subscriptions to the Network but if done properly and promoted in the future then I’m all in. That seems to be what they are doing with the Elimination Chamber coming up later this month. WWE just randomly decides to add in Elimination Chamber PPV in the middle of the PPV schedule. GREAT! I’ll watch. Keep doing this as long as it comes with my Network subscription. Could the WWE add in a quick Cyber Sunday or Taboo Tuesday again? Why not.
To me, this seems like the perfect venue to bring back some old PPV classics that have been retired for years. Specifically some of the WCW themed PPVs, similar to what TNA was trying to do with their One-Night-Only PPVs. You wouldn’t turn in to a 2-hour Lethal Lottery PPV if it was shown on the Network on a Wednesday night if it was promoted? Of course you would. Give the mid-card a real chance to shine and have some fun with some zany tag-team partnerships. The top-tier guys can show up and compete or just be part of a random tag-team and not take the fall. A one-night pairing of John Cena and Heath Slater? Or Rusev and Jack Swagger? Just a fun, entertaining night of TV. Or just a quick one night Bash at the Beach, or Halloween Havoc, or even a In Your House! I think this is where the WWE is starting to move towards and I’m excited. But anyways you came here to get predictions for the PPV that is actually happening, not hypothetical dream scenarios from me. So let’s get to it. Again, in case you are in a confidence pool and want to win that as well my rankings are at the bottom.
The Meta Powers vs. The Ascension
Sandow and Axel could produce two months of gold here if done properly. I don’t think you want this to be a drawn out gimmick but if they do a two month run on this it could be epic. So obviously they get the win tonight as The Ascension seems to be on borrowed time. I’m surprised they didn’t get a more serious run upon their debut but they have that glorified jobber stench on them now that will take some work to rub off or repackage. So if they are on the pre-show against a comedy team, they’re roles are to take the fall and get the crowd in a good mood before the actual PPV starts.
Bigger question though, is who ends up playing the Miss Elizabeth role in this new Meta Powers tag team. They are still missing that piece but you know it’s coming. I think that’s a segment designed for a RAW than a PPV but let’s take a guess on it anyways. I think the diva best suited for that role may have been Summer Rae but after her recent turn on Sandow, she’s out. I’m not sure there’s a great option on the WWE or NXT roster for Miss Elizabeth, so my bet would be on a returning Layla. She’s been off TV for awhile so she’d make for a good return pop. She doesn’t wrestle as much anymore but could still take a bump or go if she had to. And she’s hot, so that helps too.
WINNER: The Meta Powers
Remember when Neville had a first name? Me neither. Anyways, before WrestleMania I said the WWE should have Barrett successfully defend the IC title, push the hell out of him, and see what they actually have in Wade Barrett. I didn’t think that would be what would happen, and it wasn’t, but that woulda been my plan. But I think you are going to get the same idea with his King of the Ring win. The King Barrett schtick will have some legs to it and I think Barrett is going to get a run to see where he can go with it. I can’t see Barrett losing a PPV match this soon after earning his Kingship. So Neville will put on a show and look great, but King Barrett will walk out with a victory.
WINNER: King Barrett
I might be in the minority here but I like Ryback. I think he could be huge in 2-3 years. I know Bray is supposed to be the next big thing but I like Ryback’s potential and future over Bray’s. Doesn’t mean I’m about to pick him tonight though. Even though I’m not sure WWE knows exactly what to do or make of Bray, they seem high on him and want to build him to be big. So I think that means a victory tonight. I do dig the Wyatt family reunion it appears we may be getting too. Rown was going NOWHERE on his own, and Harper was doing well but seemed like he had a limited upside in the near future as a singles wrestler. Keep Harper and Rowan together, still loosely associated with Bray at times or when needed, and that unit can be better together than they are separately.
WINNER: Bray Wyatt
This goes against my nature but I’m going to brag a little bit here and put myself over. I nailed this prediction in the last preview. I had Ziggler winning only to have Sheamus make him kiss his arse later. I’m less confident here though. I think Sheamus has to get a win here to keep this feud moving. I think the feud ends with Sheamus finally having to pay up and kiss Ziggler’s arse, but I don’t see that happening tonight. So give me Sheamus picking up the victory by some sort of chicanery, both men entering the IC Elimination Chamber in two weeks but not winning, and finishing with an Irish arse kissing at Money in the Bank.
I was really loving Heel Naomi. Then they changed all her colorful ring gear to all black and gave her the heat-killer Tamina as a partner/bodyguard. Eh. I think it could still go somewhere but I’m not too excited about it anymore. I think Naomi actually ends up winning the Divas Championship at the next PPV but it doesn’t mean I need to be excited about it. The newly developed tag team needs the victory here to gain some momentum, especially with Tamina just coming back, so give me them here. I’m still confused about why the Bellas are together after their “huge sister vs. sister” feud and even more confused that they are faces now???? Both came with little to no explanation. It just bugs me.
WINNER: Naomi and Tamina
Best 2 out of 3 Falls
The New Day vs. Kidd and Cesaro
This was the match of the night at Extreme Rules and I’d be surprised if it wasn’t again tonight. I’m kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on The New Day in my last PPV preview. I stated that I guaranteed they’d be the next tag team champions but didn’t think it would happen at Extreme Rules. And that was the only match I missed all night. I let you guys down. Won’t happen again here as I’m taking The New Day to retain. They have been amazing. I’m surprised WWE is giving these guys this much run and screen time but it’s paying off big time. It’s really refreshing to see. And I’m going to talk more about them in the next match as well.
But for this match, I smell something fishy happening. Other than these guys just being able to pull out great matches, this 2 out of 3 falls stipulation seems out of left field to me. UNLESS, they are going somewhere with it. Hear me out here. Anytime a faction wins the tag titles, the first thing you always hear is “It would be awesome if they defended the belts by The Freebird Rules”. But what if The New Day defended the belts via The Freebirds Rules in the same match. Have Kofi and Xaiver start the match and lose the first fall. Then, sensing trouble Big E enters in the 2nd fall for Kofi and just dominates. New Day picks up the 2nd fall and Kofi switches in for Xaiver for the final fall and New Day successfully defends the titles. Kidd/Cesaro still come out looking good, New Day gains more momentum and awesomeness, and makes New Day declare two members when the feud continues in two weeks at Elimination Chamber, possibly with some more teams added.
WINNER: The New Day
I Quit Match
John Cena vs. Rusev
I think if this was any other stipulation I would pick Rusev. I just can’t see the WWE building up Rusev as an undefeated monster for over a year just to lose 3 straight times to Cena. And I get the idea that he’s still getting a rub from behind in the same segments/matches as John Cena….but you can’t tell me Bray Wyatt is soaring right now after his Cena feud and loss at WrestleMania two years ago. So it makes sense that Rusev gets a win here to build some momentum back. BUT, John Cena saying ‘I Quit’? I don’t think so. Maybe you could go route where Cena protects Lana from Rusev hurting her by saying I quit but that doesn’t seem likely to me. I know it’s been done before, in this feud even, and it seems pretty predictable but I think Lana makes the decision for Rusev here and throws in the towel for Rusev. This can lead to Rusev eventually snapping on Lana, turning Lana babyface, making Rusev into a monster again, and continuing down the road. Sometimes, the predictable answer is the best answer.
Another reason to have Cena retain: His John Cena US Open Challenge has been great. We get to finally see Cena with new guys, in a new role, and a fresh spot on the card. I’ve really enjoyed it. The only real problem with it to me has been that you’ve known he’s not losing the US Title while he’s in a US Title feud with Rusev. Now that that feud can be finished, the US Open Challenge can become more exciting now that the possibility of Cena somehow losing is in play. In the last PPV preview I said I had no idea who would eventually defeat Cena for the US Title, but I think I have a prediction now that I’m fairly confident with…….Big E.
They’ve been pushing the hell out of The New Day the last month or so and positioning Big E as the main man in that faction along the way. If WWE is going to be serious about The New Day, and I think they are, that means a big run for Big E here soon. What better way to do that then have him be the man to defeat John Cena in his John Cena US Open Challenge. Cena isn’t going to lose that belt clean to anybody, and The New Day provides the perfect opportunity to win via shenanigans. You can even have Cena start a mini-feud with the entire New Day. Have Xaiver or Kofi take the challenge first, only to lose. They keep their sights set on Cena though and make life miserable for Mr. HLR. This can culminate with Big E taking the Challenge, winning, and New Day becoming more obnoxious than ever.
WINNER: John Cena
Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose
Adding Dean Ambrose to the mix has turned this from a Triple Threat match I had little interest in into a Fatal Four-way match I’m anxious to see what happens in. I think this match could go in a variety of different ways. In fact, the only outcome I can’t see happening here is a Roman Reigns victory. I think his title win has to be in a 1-on-1 match to make it seem like a bigger deal, but I think everything else is in play. When in doubt though, I’m going to ultimately fall back on the champion retaining the title. It just seems like the safest bet and I’m not a big fan of hot-potatoeing the biggest belt in the company.
If you want to go with a title change though, here would be the route I would go. Somehow, Randy Orton wins the title without pinning Rollins. So I guess that would make it Orton pinning Ambrose since I can’t see Reigns taking a fall tonight. And let’s be honest, adding Ambrose to the match might have made the match a little more interesting but it does feel like he was added to take the pinfall so Orton, Rollins, or Reigns wouldn’t have to. But without Rollins getting pinned and losing his title, he has a legit gripe. AND…..we had the warning from HHH to Kane stating that if Rollins would lose his championship in this match, Kane might be out of The Authority.
So, this leads to Monday night as Orton as the champion. Rollins comes out to complain, The Authority shows up, yadda yadda yadda, and Triple H sets up this match: The Elimination Chamber is in two weeks. Orton will defend his title inside the Chamber against Rollins, Kane, Big Show, and J&J Security. Basically a 5-on-1. HHH tells Kane his only job is to help Orton retain his title again. If not, he’s officially out of The Authority.
I know that’s not a great match to watch, but it’s not a bad build for a PPV on the Network you have to promote and sell in under two weeks. It can also be where Kane finally flips on Rollins to start a mini-feud for those two, and Orton can have quick run with the title. Again, I don’t think that’s happening and I’m taking the safe bet of Rollins retaining but if you want to get a little crazy with your predictions tonight that’s the way I’d go.
