And while I’ve been LOVING these PPVs every other week, I really wish this wasn’t a Money in the Bank PPV tonight. This just seems way too rushed for this big of a PPV. Many people are putting the MITB PPV ahead of Survivor Series in terms of significance but that’s going to be tough to do being just two weeks since the last PPV. And I always liked the qualifying matches to get into the MITB match which we had to bypass this year. I realize this was just a special circumstance this year but hopefully next year we get a better push into the Money in the Bank PPV and make it into a big deal again….and not just the 3rd PPV in 5 weeks.
I’ve been on the R-Truth bandwagon for about 2 to 3 months and it looks like its starting to catch a little steam. His promo Monday night on RAW about being in the MITB match was pure gold. Hopefully we get some more of R-Truth in the next year because I find him entertaining. Kind of looks like the WWE is positioning him to be the next Santino Marella for the next couple of years, which is not a bad gig. I don’t know if that translates into winning matches, specifically this one, but it would keep getting him TV time. I think Barrett ends up winning here. I’m not sure where they are going with Barrett (I’m not sure WWE does either) but it doesn’t appear to be upwards. A win here at least delays it going downwards though which I think is significant.
Winner: King Barrett
The New Day vs. The Prime Time Players
I love all five of these guys. #POP, putting it down! Probably going to keep this preview short though because I don’t think there is any way in hell the PTPers leave this match with the belts. The New Day is just too over right now to even deliberate about them dropping the straps here. Maybe the Prime Time Players win by DQ or something to keep the feud going but I’m not going to hedge my bets that much here. I just hope the PTPers find something significant to do after their feud with The New Day and don’t get lost in the shuffle.
Winners: The New Day
Nikki vs. Paige
I think I am on a 2 or 3 match losing streak with Nikki title matches. I keep saying she’s going to lose it and she keeps retaining it. And I’m torn here. Part of me thinks that she has to lose the belts here to Paige or else Paige is out of the title picture for awhile which seems like a waste of a return from her. On the other hand though, Nikki keeps winning these matches so I gotta think there is a reason for it. Whether its to keep the belt on the star of Total Divas, or to get her to AJ’s record of days with the title, or something else it just seems like she’s winning for a reason. Go with the opposite of whatever I end up choosing because this feels one that I get wrong no matter which way I go.
Ryback vs. Big Show
Another one of those matches where there is no way Big Show walks out as the champion tonight so I’ll keep this one short too. Think this one is even easier to predict than the tag title match because even if it’s a DQ finish it’s going to be Ryback winning by DQ. So no need to hedge my bet here either. For predictions sake though, I’ll say Ryback wins clean. Finishes with the Shellshock. The next PPV is in 5 weeks, so I can’t see this Big Show/Ryback feud going on for another 5 weeks…..nor would anyone want to. So I’ll say Ryback wins clean here then faces someone new at Battlegrounds in 5 weeks. And since I’m making predictions, after 2 minutes of research and thinking I’ll say it will be Sheamus.
You may have read this elsewhere on the internet over the past 2 weeks but their match at Elimination Chamber was really good. Kind of surprised they went right back to the rematch just two weeks later but I’m looking forward to it. I say go all-in on Owens here. That win he picked up over Cena was HUGE…but it would lose a little luster with a loss to Cena just two weeks later. Booking 101 says Cena should win here to make it 1-1 and then have the rubber match down the road, but I say they’ll go off the books here. Owens wins again making it 2-0 and dodges Cena for the next 6-7 months. Then starts getting cheap shots in on Cena around WrestleMania season and sets up the rematch at Mania. I’m probably getting way ahead of myself here but oh well.
Winner: Kevin Owens
Neville v. Randy Orton v. Sheamus v. Roman Reigns v. Kane v. Dolph Ziggler v. Kofi Kingston
Just for clarity sake, I’ll star this with the percentages I’d give each wrestler of winning.
Let’s start from the bottom up.
Neville – He’ll be entertaining, but he ain’t winning. Moving on.
Orton – Not sure where Orton is going in the near future, which makes a MITB win kind of intriguing. But he just won this match in 2013 so I can’t see him winning again this quickly.
Kane – Only giving him this high of a percentage because of his interactions with Rollins recently. That would be one more thing for Rollins to have to deal with but I don’t see this as likely.
Sheamus – I’m probably a little bit too low here on Sheamus but I didn’t have any more percentage points to give out since I think WWE has made Reigns the overwhelming favorite. I think this would seem like a good time to give Sheamus the MITB briefcase but I think there are too many other options in this match where I’m not going to go much higher here.
Kofi – If you wanted to go outside the box in this match, I think Kofi is your pick. He’s never really gotten to the higher level of WWE consistently but this New Day group could be his chance. I don’t see many scenarios where The New Day isn’t a big deal from this point to at least the Royal Rumble. Giving that group the MITB briefcase could really strengthen their significance. I don’t think people would buy Kofi as a future champion immediately but give him 4-8 months carrying around that briefcase and they might, a la Seth Rollins. He’s an option
Ziggler – He’s going to be my pick to win this even though I only give him a 20% chance. They have brought up Dolph’s previous cash in a lot in the past two weeks, more than what I’d say is a coincidence. And they keep calling it “one of the most memorable RAW moments of all-time”. Around Survivor Series, Dolph was as over as he’d ever been since that MITB cash-in. He’s dropped a bit but has been really solid and entertaining the past 4 months. With Daniel Bryan sidelined, I think there’s a role to fill and Dolph with the MITB contract could fill that role. The fans love him, like they did with Bryan. Maybe here is the WWE’s chance to see if they have anything with Dolph or if its time to let that ship sail.
Reigns – He’ has to be the favorite going in, which is why I gave him 51 percentage points. He’s been on a monster push and seems ready to take the step back into the title scene. My question is whether or not he actually needs the briefcase to do so. I don’t think he does. Roman is going to be in the main event scene for the foreseeable future, why not give the MITB to someone it could help also elevate to that level eventually? Like a Dolph or a Kofi or a Sheamus. And he would just look silly carrying that briefcase down through the stands every time he entered the ring. If he does win, I can’t see him holding onto that contract too long though. I’d say he cashes in before SummerSlam. Either tonight after Rollins wins or when Brock comes back to set up a Triple Threat match at SummerSlam. But….I don’t have him winning.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose
If rumors didn’t have it that Lesnar was coming back soon (possibly tomorrow night) I could talk myself into Ambrose winning the title here tonight. But, the money is in a title match or feud between some combination of Rollins, Lesnar, and/or Reigns and I just can’t find a way to sneak Ambrose in there. My biggest issue is they’ve made Rollins look so dependent on The Authority I don’t see how he could be viewed as a threat to Lesnar when he returns. So I’m starting to think WWE may go more towards a Lesnar/Reigns matchup opposed to Lesnar/Rollins.
But this is a blog about predictions so I’ll say Rollins wins here, fairly clean. Lesnar returns soon to get revenge on Rollins. Lesnar wins a #1 Contender’s match at the next PPV Battleground and gets his match with Seth at SummerSlam. Then depending on the MITB match, it may or may not also include Reigns. I really think the only way that match is plausible is if Reigns is part of the match to make it a 3-way. Damn, I’m already rethinking that Ziggler pick above.
Winner: Seth Rollins
6 - Ryback
5 - The New Day
4 - Rollins
3 - Owens
2 - Nikki
1 - Ziggler
Kickoff - King Barrett
