I guess its better to get this matchup now than having these guys mashed up together in some type meaningless Survivor Series next month. Look for some good fun here for the kickoff match. I’m normally all in on picking the good guys in these kickoff matches but I’m going the other way here. The foreign trio could use a little momentum after just forming and Ziggler/Cesaro/Neville just got a win over these guys on RAW recently. Look for the bad guys to pick one up here.
Winners: Sheamus, Barrett, Rusev
Kevin Owens vs. Ryback
I’m not sure what odds I would have to get to pick Ryback to win the championship tonight but they’d have to be pretty high. I can see Ryback winning by a DQ or count out finish but Owens is leaving with the title. I’ll pick him to get the outright win as well.
Winner: Kevin Owens
Charlotte vs. Nikki Bella
Lost in all this #DivasRevolution was how great Nikki was in 2015. Her work got really solid and she held that division together until the NXT call-ups came and played a great foil for them once they did. But now it feels like its time for the Bellas to step aside for a little bit and let the new faces have the screen time for a while. Charlotte, Becky, Paige, Natty, Sasha and Naomi can handle it from here. Let them have a chance to shine. Great run though Nikki.
The New Day vs. The Dudley Boys
Getting the tag team titles on Team 3D would make for a great moment and some excitement but I just don’t see any reasoning for taking the straps off The New Day right now. They’re gold. So I’ll say its Big E and Kofi tonight with Xavier Woods not at ringside due to his attack from the Dudleys last Monday. The Dudleys have Kofi set up for the 3D and out sneaks a healthy Xavier Woods to break it up or cause the distraction. Big E follows up after the distraction and scores the victory.
Winner: The New Day
John Cena vs. ??????
When it became apparent that this “John Cena Open Challenge” was going to be a regular thing, I had predicted that Big E would eventually be the one to take the title from Cena. I figured a win over Cena would push Big E into that next tier and give The New Day some more juice. But then WWE went with Kevin Owens instead. Which really worked. That turned out better than anything I could have planned for with Big E, even without Owens actually winning the title.
I’m not sure what the whole idea behind Cena losing the title to Rollins just to win it back later was, but once it happened I was back on the Big E train. But I just don’t get that feel right now. I think Big E finishes his Tag Title match with the Dudleys tonight and that’s the last we see of him.
Which moves us to the big question: Who do we get tonight as the Mystery opponent? I honestly have no feel for this one, which makes it pretty exciting. I feel like this opponent could be anyone. And they probably have a legit shot of winning if the Cena absence rumors are true. I don’t see it being anyone on the current, active main roster. I could see possibly Randy Orton or a returning Jericho but I’ll go against those too. It’s always fun to fantasy predict so why not go crazy here. Top 5 possibilities:
- Kurt Angle
- Daniel Bryan
- Sami Zayn
- Dolph Ziggler
- Tyler Breeze
Winner: Mystery Opponent (Tyler Breeze)
I don’t think it’s happening tonight but this feels like a feud Bray has to ultimately win. In my eyes, for Bray and the entire Wyatt family to continue to be viewed as a serious threat in the WWE they have to win feuds like this. All the sinister promos, creepy talking, and weird personas lose a little bit of luster if you know he/they are going to lose the feud in the end, which is generally the case with the Wyatts. I realize Bray won his feud with Ambrose but he’d have to be considered the ‘loser’ of his feuds with The Shield, Cena, Bryan, and Undertaker. If he comes out on the short end of the stick against Reigns tonight, why would we view him or the rest of the Wyatts as threats?
And a loss for Roman probably isn’t the worst thing in the world right now either. The underlying reason his Royal Rumble winning push backfired is because the fans felt he was getting the “Super Cena” push where he wins everything and never loses without really earning that spot. His matches have been pretty good overall in 2015, his promos are getting there, but if that sense of “he’s never going to lose” is always in the back of your mind its going to be tough for the fans to really get behind him. Give him a loss here, however you want to do it. The fans can eventually rally behind him and not just feel like they are cheering on a front-runner. I really think that’s his only chance to clear that final hurdle into being The Man without turning heel.
Again, I don’t think there is much of a chance of any of this happening. I’ll take Roman Reigns tonight and feel pretty confident with him coming out on top. But I hope I’m wrong.
Winner: Roman Reigns
Kane vs. Seth Rollins
I tell you what, I’ve been anti-Kane almost all year (I mean, it is 2015 not 2005) but this last month, month and a half of Corporate/Demon Kane stuff has been really good. And when you have Lesnar/Undertaker as the main event you can afford for your championship feud to go in this comedy route briefly. I’ve really enjoyed it. But I do hope this is the last we see of Rollins and Kane together. Give Rollins a solid win, gain some more respectability, and move on.
Winner: Seth Rollins
I’m pumped for this. This just feels like a big match. And the winner seems like it is in doubt a little. You could legitimately see this one go either way. It’s tough to envision The Beast losing, but how can The Undertaker take another loss here and still be meaningful at WrestleMania 32 in Dallas? If ‘Taker loses here he’s basically 0-3 against Lesnar since he won at SummerSlam AFTER cleanly tapping out. So for as much stock and effort WWE is putting into making WrestleMania 32 in Dallas a huge event and filling Cowboys Stadium with upwards of 100,000 people can they really afford to hurt one of their bigger draws in The Undertaker like that? The whole thing is fascinating to me and I’m excited to see where it goes. I just hope its not a schmozey finish; give me a clean and decisive winner here tonight Vince.
I’ve gone back and forth on this many times in the past couple weeks but ultimately I keep coming back to the fact that the WWE is better when Lesnar is the unstoppable Beast. He’s your draw, he’s your cash cow. They’ve had Brock under this special events contract and still losing to Cena and HHH….and that’s not nearly as exciting as these matches feel when he is an unbeatable presence. I think you have to end the night with The Undertaker refusing to quit and refusing to accept defeat. But in the end with blood shed and bodies bruised, Brock is just too much and comes out on top. You can figure out how to make The Undertaker relevant again when Mania rolls around but I’m not sure you can afford a Lesnar loss here. Give me the Beast Incarnate.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
2- New Day
1- Mystery Opponent
PreShow: Sheamus, Barrett, Rusev
