After last night's Sweet 16 games, here are the teams remaining on each half of the bracket.
Right Side: Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky, UCLA, Oregon, Butler
Left Side: Wisconsin, Florida, Baylor, South Carolina, Gonzaga, Xavier
Whoa....not exactly what we in the mathematics profession would call "evenly distributed". I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say once we get to the Final Four that the left side matchup will get the early tip and the Kansas vs. North Carolina/UCLA/Kentucky game will get the prime time tip.
Oh Sean. I'm not an Arizona fan, I rarely watch any of their regular season games, and yet I genuinely feel terrible for Sean Miller today. That dude just appears to be allergic to the Final Four. His teams look like a strong candidate to get to the Final Four almost every year but they can never quite get there.
Us Wisconsin Badgers fans feel especially bad for him. The two years Wisconsin reached the Final Four they had to defeat Arizona in the Elite Eight to get there. And those were two battles. Arizona had really, really great teams those years....but just lost some heartbreakers to the Badgers to keep them out of the Final Four, once in overtime. He also has another Elite Eight loss, in 2011, after knocking off the #1 seeded team in their region, the Duke Blue Devils, the round before.
This year looked like another great opportunity for Arizona and Coach Miller to get to the Final Four. He brought another great team into the tournament, got a two seed, and had Gonzaga as the 1 seed in their region. I think Gonzaga is the real deal, despite their soft schedule, but the 'Zags have their own Final Four demons to battle. Another great opportunity for the Wildcats down the drain last night....to the 11 seed Xavier Musketeers.
After posting on our Twitter page yesterday on people's preferences between whether they prefer the Three Counts to be posted in the morning or evenings, a couple things emerged. One, the vote was really close....actually came down to the final vote. Two, I was hanging my hat that we at least had double digit people reading this blog daily.....now I'm not so sure.
