Found another "You Have $15" thing on the internet yesterday. This one was you have $15 to spend to make the best Cyclones basketball team you can construct. Here are the players and prices:
But at first glance I went with: Hoiberg ($5), Hornacek ($4), Stinson ($3), Brackins ($2), Cato ($1).
Not sure how I feel about it, but that's who I'd initially roll with.
Match-ups for this year's Big Ten/ACC Challenge have been posted. Here's the complete list:
Obviously as a Wisconsin fan, that pairing with Virginia has me pumped. Just automatically you have the Tony Bennett connection so that will be a fun storyline. Then you have the style of play match-ups. The Cavaliers are basically the Badgers of the ACC and the Badgers are basically the Cavaliers of the Big 10. Two teams that will grind you out on defense, make you earn you keep for the night, and be effective and efficient on offense. Should be classic.
Who could forget their classic they had together in 2013? If 2017 is anything like that, we are in for a treat. A 48-38 thriller won by the Badgers at the John Paul Jones Arena. I think that game is still played on ESPN College Instant Classics at least once a week. It had a little bit of everything.
- Balanced Scoring: Josh Gasser was the only player on either team in double figures
- Great Defense: Lowest point combined point total (86) in B1G/ACC Challenge history
- Great Defense: Wiscy held UVA to 23% FG shooting, and UVA held Wiscy to 28%
- History: Was Bo Ryan's 300th career victory
Hopefully we are in for another great basketball game like this in December.
Fort Dodge Senior High inducted it's 2017 class into their Athletic Hall of Fame last night. My cousin, Mitch Eslick, was one of the inductees. Even though I did not attend FDSH or ever play any sports with or against Mitch, I was a little disappointed that I was not chosen to introduce him into his Hall of Fame. I thought I would have some encouraging words for him and could have shared some funny Eslick moments that would have went over well with the crowd.
But then I started thinking, I'm sure other people that know Mitch would feel the same way and would have some things they would have liked to share about him at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony. So being the journalist that I am, I sent some emails and texts out to some of Mitch's friends, family, and former teammates. I had them just give me a quick sentence or two to share about Mitch and his athletic career and their thoughts about him entering the Fort Dodge Hall of Fame.
So these are all totally true, 100% accurate testimonies from people about Mitch Eslick:
Bruce Hartley - "The consumate leader. A true joy to coach on and off the court."
Drew Mitchell - "I wish I could be there today to celebrate this moment with Mitch. It's kinda fitting though I guess that I'm not there to share this moment with Mitch since Mitch never shared the ball with me while we are actually playing together."
Lucas Boyd - "I carry the guy to state championship and he's the one that gets inducted into the Hall of Fame. Awesome."
Janet Eslick - "Basketball Emoji. Smiley Face Emoji. Tennis Ball Emoji. Celebration Emoji."
Ben Fjelland - "He's cost me so many Miller Open and Miller Masters Best Ball trophies over the years, I'm just glad he finally has something to put on his mantle."
Jacob Short - "I don't really have to say about Mitch. I just plan on Retweeting what everyone else says about him."
Dick Peth - "It's really hard for me to motivate players to get in the weight room since Mitch has left the program. They all see a kid become really successful with a max bench press of 125 lbs. and think they can do it too. Thanks a lot, Mitch."
Drew Stonewall - "Sorry, I'm off this week. Talk to me next week and I can give you my thoughts on Mitch's athletic career."
Lee Crawford - "Really proud of Mitch and all of his athletic achievements. Somebody just make sure to keep a close eye on the basketball nets in the gym that night. Eslick has a history of cutting them down after big achievements when he probably shouldn't do it."
Tim Flattery - "Mitch had an outstanding high school and college career. Almost good enough to make it onto my podcast. Not quite, but almost."
Janice Edwards - "This is for the athletics Hall of Fame, right? Because there's no way he's getting into our academic Hall of Fame."
Molly Eslick - "Real nice gesture by FDSH to induct the second best Eslick to ever put on a Dodgers uniform."
