Going to be a shortened edition of the Three Count today due to the 4th of July holiday, so this may be the only topic with actual work put into it and not just promote other stuff we have going on at The 808. I started my Bollmeyer Summer Movie Matinee Tour a couple days ago, a late start compared to last year. As a teacher I need to find things to do to stay busy over the summer so last year I started going to matinee movies. Hit 11 movies throughout the year last year, this was my first movie in 2017.
I highly recommend going to see Baby Driver if you get the chance, or at least watch it on Redbox or whatever when it comes to DVD. It is rated R though, so keep that in mind.
I'm going to spoil a little bit of the movie here (not the plot), so if you haven't seen it I'd suggest just skipping straight down to #2. But I had not seen any previews for this movie or really heard much about it online. I was looking for movies to go to since there had not been many this summer I'd wanted to see yet. I'm not into the Pirates movies, or the Cars movies, or any of the other big franchise movies out this summer. I had wanted to go see Rough Night but reviews for that were low so I ended up shying away from that movie. As I was scrolling through screen times I saw Baby Driver and clicked on it to see what it was about. The preview looked good enough and had high ratings, so I decided to check it out.
Baby Driver was better than any of the 11 movies I saw last year. It was really good. Again, not knowing anything about it going in I had minimal expectations so maybe a lot of my entertainment level was just being very pleasantly surprised. The only actor I knew was in the movie was Kevin Spacey, his name was listed in the brief preview I read. So the movie starts and see Jon Hamm is also in the movie....so I start to think 'OK, that's a good sign'. And the movie starts out well and I'm enjoying it. About 30 minutes into the movie, Jamie Foxx shows up. Now I know we have something here.
It was like going to a WWE show and getting an unannounced Undertaker appearance. All of a sudden I'm at an entertaining movie with huge stars in it. Overall it ended up being a really good movie. My only complaint is one typical of a lot of action movies or heist type movies, and that was at times you have to suspend your sense of believability. A couple crazy driving scenes and shoot-outs that defy logic and common sense at times but that never bothers me. Highest of recommendations from me.
Reminder to enter our 2nd Annual "Blood On My Hands" Big Brother pool if you haven't done so already. We have 8 entrants in so far. Contest ends Wednesday night at midnight and then I'll release everyone's selections. Again all you have to do is select the 3 Big Brother Houseguests you think will have the best season this year. They will accumulate points and we'll tally them. Once you pick the HouseGuests, you're done and can just watch how they do the rest of the season.
Link to the Google Forms to fill out is here. Should only take 2-3 minutes. Good luck.
And just another reminder here to get August 12th circle on your calendar for our first ever "N64 Mario Kart Tournament" here at The 808. Hopefully looking forward to a fun day of Mario Kart and various other activities. No need to sign up, just show up on the 12th.
