A quick update of the Big Brother POWER RANKINGS is below, followed by a couple Big Brother notes from the previous couple of episodes.
Not a whole lot changed in our POWER RANKINGS from the initial rankings we put out after the premiere episode. We did put Paul in the mix now. I think Paul will make a deep run but it's hard for me to see him actually winning with the "returning player" target on his back, which is why he's #5 on the Male side.
Cody moves down from #1 to #3. In our initial POWER RANKINGS we said Cody "checked all the boxes". After watching the next two episodes, another box he checks is "dick". The guy is a little to obsessed with Power and screwing people over. It's a great quality to have in Big Brother when needed; not sure I want to see so much of it in Week 1 though. Too aggressive too early gets people in trouble, so we had to move him down to #3.
Mark moves up #7 to #4. Mark made a great impression the previous two episodes. Seems pretty laid back and level-headed and more importantly got himself into a solid alliance early. I like the Cody, Matt, Mark trio....especially as a game move for Mark. With Cody getting the initial HoH, that puts the target on Cody early, not Mark. And there are enough showmances in the house early that his showmance may not put a huge target on his back. We might even be too low on Mark, there's a case to be made that he should be even higher.
We kept everything on the Female side the same from the initial POWER RANKINGS. I think I'd be fine with any rankings of 3-6. I think Jessica/Dominique are our clear 1 and 2 in some order and Jillian is a clear #7. But I'd be fine with any combination you decided to put at 3 through 6.
I'm a little gun shy on this since DaVonne screwed me over on her first season when I went all-in on her but I really like Dominique. If I had to throw all my money in on one contestant right now, I think it would be her. Haven't seen her on camera much so far this season, which I think is a good thing, so it's tough to get a great read on her since I haven't been watching the live feeds yet. But I like everything I see so far. Her playing slow while many others are playing aggressive is a move I like. Needs a big first couple weeks to build relationships and alliances but if she can get on solid footing in the Big Brother house, I like her chances.
So non-POWER RANKINGS notes:
- Paul getting the 3-week immunity was a lock, just like we said. I get that production pulls some strings every once in a while to get results they think will make for better TV but this one seemed a little too blatant for me.
- Disappointing to see Megan go home so early. Not going to comment on it due to her reason for leaving but hope everything is OK.
- How much longer until Josh self-evicts though? My goodness that kid is crazy or paranoid or whatever. It's Week One. I put his Over/Under at 4.5 weeks with a friend on Twitter...I'm hammering that Under right now.
- Good gracious Christmas is jacked.
- Kevin calling emojis "mojos" was Maj. This guy is great.
- So the Den of Temptation's gimmick is that it "helps you but hurts another player"? Not much of a death sentence there for players Big Brother. Paul gets 3 weeks of immunity and SOMEBODY ELSE gets a plague. Real tough call for Paul to make there.
And finally, feel free to enter our Big Brother Pool for this season. It's the Second Annual "Blood on my Hands" Big Brother Pool. Just pick the three Houseguests you feel will have the best season and watch how they do throughout the season. Simple as that. Contest closes at midnight on Wednesday. Just go to this link and fill out your entry. Good luck!
Just a general Public Service Announcement for everyone tonight:
Nobody on social media is going to care about seeing the fireworks show you are watching.
Every year it just baffles me the number of people that post videos or pictures of town fireworks. What the hell is the purpose of that? Everyone knows what fireworks look like and at least 90% of the people that are going to see your post already saw their own fireworks show. IT’S THE FOURTH OF JULY!!!!
It’s not like you are at a special location and you are the only person getting to see fireworks this week. Look up at the sky at 10 PM anytime the next two days and you’ll probably see at minimum one set of fireworks shows, if not two or three. If I want to see fireworks I’ll go outside, not to my SnapChat.
Now if you are playing with your individual fireworks that you bought at one of the hundreds of pop-up tents around the state? Different story. I’m all about seeing you play with explosives and risk losing a limb just in the name of setting something on fire. Or who doesn’t crack a grin when they see a cute little kid dressed in red, white, and blue holding a sparkler? I’m all in on those. But if you are just pointing your phone up to the sky to record what everyone else is already seeing this holiday just put the phone away for a couple days.
I forgot to do a Wimbledon bracket this year so I'm just going to pick winners instead. My Wimbledon brackets are historically terrible anyways so it's probably a best case scenario type of situation anyways.
On the Gentlemen's side, I'm actually going to cheat a little bit here and take "The Field". I think this is finally the year the champion is not from the Federer/Djokovic/Murray/Nadal group. So my official pick is "The Field". If I had to narrow it down to just one person though, I'll go with Milos Raonic.
On the Ladies's side, I'm going to roll with Johanna Konta. The women's side seems fairly open this year, probably with the absence of Serena Williams. Seems like it's a new wave of women working their way to the top of the division. I'm not familiar with many of the top named Ladies in this tournament so putting any stock into any of my picks in that draw seems like a risky endeavor.
