What an incredibly boring final week of the NFL season. Many teams had nothing to play for and rested their players, while other teams were just coasting into the off-season. There were quarterbacks playing that I had never even heard of on Sunday. The only significant game all day was Redskins/Giants, where the ending actually made the Sunday night game of Lions/Packers less meaningful since the Redskins loss gave both Green Bay and Detroit a playoff birth. Add in the fact that there was no fantasy football to watch in Week 17 either and that leads to a really boring Sunday of football for me.
Can we get past the "Run The Table" talk with Aaron Rodgers? First off, he said "I think we can" run the table not "We are going to" run the table. That's a big difference. He wasn't guaranteeing anything, he was just wishing. And at 4-6 at the time, along with the way Green Bay was playing, there was no way he believed that either. Secondly, it isn't even that catchy or original of a phrase to try and market. His R-E-L-A-X rant was something original and marketable, this was just a thing he said to reporters after a loss.
While we're here quick then, I'd say my NFL MVP for the season is Matt Ryan.
Here are my picks for the four bowl games being played today:
Florida 25, Iowa 20 - I hate Iowa, this pick is not shocking from me.
Wisconsin 33, Western Michigan 18 - A lot of cheese curds will be eaten at The 808 today.
USC 38, Penn State 24 - And I'm not sure it will even be this close. USC will roll.
Oklahoma 27, Auburn 20 - Not sure you'd want to make a living backing Bob Stoops in bowl games, but I'll take the risk here.
