Went to the Big Monday showdown in Ames last night. Despite an intense crowd that braved a snow storm to get to the arena, the Cyclones were not able to overcome the number one team in the nation last night. It wasn't because of a lack of effort or hustle, you just got the impression over the 40 minutes that Kansas was the better team and Iowa State has some flaws on their team that are going to be tough to overcome.
To me, that felt like a game that if it wasn't played in Hilton could have turned into a 20-point Jayhawks beatdown really quick. Kansas had a high number to live-ball turnovers that kept the Cyclones in the game and Iowa State made some tough shots in both halves. For all the flaws Iowa State has on their team this year though, I think their biggest strength is their grit. With four senior starters even when they are over-matched and out-talented, they are going to battle and go down swinging. Similar to the Gonzaga loss earlier in the season, rarely will this group just fold the tents and figuratively lie down. I really like that about this team.
The WWE made a splash with their first induction into the 2017 Hall Of Fame class. Kurt Angle is coming back to the WWE. Oh it's true, it's damn true! You had the impression that Kurt Angle was going to eventually find his way back to the WWE but you just didn't know when or how. My guess was that he'd be the cover-man for a WWE video game some year and parlay that role into an in-ring role, similar to the Ultimate Warrior, Goldberg, and Sting. This move, however, gives the return a little more of a surprise and "big moment" feel.
Have not heard yet if this move is leading to a return in ring or even on screen, but I'm sure that information will come in time. Kurt Angle's initial WWE run was fantastic. One of the greatest combinations of in-ring ability and on-screen charisma and comedy. The question with the 2017 version of Kurt Angle is obviously is how his health and body is, but even if we don't see Angle return as a wrestler what he brings to the table as a character and on-screen personality is enough to look forward to. Really pumped on this announcement.
One of the underratedly great parts of being a teacher is the winter snowday. It's like a free day but you never know when it's coming or how many a year you are going to get. One year you might not get any and then next you may get 6 or 7. But when it comes, it's like a Christmas gift that you get for an entire day. I got one yesterday.
Ice made most of the roads here in Iowa undriveable yesterday morning, so our school cancelled for the day, which basically gave me a 3-day weekend. I know reading about how a teacher gets MORE time off when they already get 2 1/2 months in the summer isn't what most people probably want to do, but I don't care. It was great, give me another one next week too.
