Let's rip out some quick picks for the NBA All-Star Weekend.
Taco Bell Skills Challenge:
I'm going to go John Wall here. I'm not sure what the format is but it's Smalls vs. Bigs, so I assume there will be one of each in the finals. So I'll say he beats Kristaps Porzingis in the finals.
JBL Three-Point Challenge
Not sure how JBL gets to sponsor this event. I'm sure Michael Cole is pretty pissed about getting snubbed. But I'll take Kemba Walker here. He always has a knack for coming up big in pressure situations and I think he'll be looking to shine and get some spotlight here. And I'll predict he defeats CJ McCollum in the finals.
Verizon Slam Dunk Challenge
Forget the winner, the real drama is waiting to see if the "Dunk Contest is dead" or if the "Dunk Contest is back!". I feel like the narrative on that flip flops every year. This feels like a "Dunk Contest is dead" year for me. I'm pretty sure I'm contractually obligated to pick the Pacer in the event, so give me Glen Robinson III over Aaron Gordon in the finals.
Even in the All-Star Game, LeBron can't get any help. The West trots out Durant, Steph, Harden, Kawhi, and Anthony Davis in their starting lineup. In the East, after LeBron the other starters are Jimmy Butler, Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. That's a huge mismatch. I'll take the West.
Being a high school teacher I normally see all the newest "trends" from my students. Sometimes those new trends are a year or so behind when they were actually popular though. The new trends to start this school year were dabbing and bottle flipping. Dabbing was at least half a year past being popular when the school year started and bottle flipping wore out it's welcome two weeks into the school year.
Now I know most of you don't come to this blog for my advice on women's fashion but I think the new fashion trend in women's attire needs to either be addressed or explained to me. For the past 6 months now, these "choker" necklaces have been all the rage. I see them all the time now in pop culture and students in our high school are wearing them all the time now too. I don't get it.
I realize I'm not exactly locked in on female fashion but is there a point to these things? I realize there really isn't much point to a regular necklace when you actually think about it but I really don't get the point of these chokers. They can't be comfortable. I grow a 5 day beard and the my neck starts itching from that and drives me crazy all day. I can't imagine basically having a rope tied around my neck all day. Is it suppose to accentuate your neck? Like I've never looked at one of those necklaces and thought "Oh, that looks really good". Just seems weird to me.
I don't think we as a society appreciate enough the fact that there is company all over the state of Iowa that allows us to walk into a building, buy a pizza for $5, and leave in under a minute. It really is amazing when you think of it. You can just walk into a store and leave with a pizza in your hands in under a minute.
Like last night, I went to get my Farrell's workout in. Got a good 45 minute sweat in and started to head home. But Angela is out of town for the weekend so I am home alone this weekend and hadn't eaten dinner yet. So being the #NaturalAthlete that I am figured what better way to finish off a great workout than buy eating a pizza. So I pull into Little Ceasar's and I was literally in the store for about 45 seconds. Here was my entire encounter:
"Hey bud, what can I get ya?"
"I'll take a pepperoni pizza."
"Can I get you any crazy bread with that?"
"No, I'm alright."
"Alright then, she'll get you at the register over here."
"That will be $5.30..........Would you like a receipt?"
"OK, have a great night then."
"Thank you, you too."
Might not have even been 45 seconds that I retype the entire experience again. And it was only $5.30. Outstanding. I think we just take Little Ceasar's for granted. I mean, where else can you walk into a place and get one of the greatest things in the world and it's both cheap and quick? And there are many of those locations all over the world? I can't think of anything. So thank you Little Ceasar's.
