Finally, I can present our finished project for this year's Des Moines 48 Hour Film Project!
The "Best of Des Moines" screenings and awards presentation were last Thursday night. One Genome Short Productions was not able to repeat as Best Picture but Re:Pete was able to win Audience Choice, Best Writing, and Best Sound Design. So all-in-all a pretty solid showing.
I'll do a larger write up on my overall experience during my first ever 48 Hour Film Project at a later date but for now, here was our submission for this year's festival. Re:Pete.
And speaking of high-quality video content......
We put out another episode of Cooking At The 808 this morning. We had a Summer Slam party at our house last night and the Stromboli is always a hit at those gatherings. So I made a pair for the event last night and made it into an episode. That was Episode Five so we are officially halfway through the series.
And speaking of Summer Slam....
I was disappointed in the overall show last night. The main event was outstanding. Really a lot of fun, which is when wrestling is at its best. I don't need to see a four and a half star classic but I want to have fun while I watch professional wrestling. And that main event was fun.
And a majority of the other matches were good....but I was still disappointed. It just never felt like the second biggest PPV of the year to me. Other than being 4 hours long with a two hour pre-show and 13 total matches, it really didn't feel much different than any other PPV.
So maybe my expectations were too high going in but WWE does basically promote SummerSlam as a WrestleMania-lite like show in the summer. I thought we'd see more twists and turns and surprises. We didn't even get a Summer Slam stage set up. I was the same set up they have for RAW, SmackDown, and every other PPV. I guess I was just hoping Summer Slam would have a different feel. The only thing that felt different from any other PPV was this one was longer.
So I think it would have been a great PPV if it was a BackLash, or a Battleground, or even a Survivor Series. I left the night a little disappointed though since it was a SummerSlam.
