I pulling for Sergio today at The Masters. Hard to believe that he's never won a major golf title for as long as he's been in golf. He's getting to that "How many more quality opportunities does he have left?" stage in his career. I hope he capitalizes on his opportunity today.
Don't look now but the Pacers are finally playing some good basketball. Maybe it was the addition of Lance, maybe it's Paul George finally locking in, maybe it's the team just peaking at the right time but they are making a strong push into the playoffs. Currently as the 7 seed in the East, if they could draw Boston in the first round I think I'd really like their chances to win that first round.
And now this is just the fan in me talking, but if anyone is going to beat the Cavs and LeBron in the East I think the Pacers have as good of a shot as anyone. Last week when the Cavs destroyed the Celtics in their big "playoff-preview" it just proved once again that you aren't competing for titles unless you have a legitimate super-star on your team. You can be as balanced as you can be and win consistently in the regular season but when the big games roll around, you need a start. Too many times basketball comes down to which team has the best player on the floor. And if your team isn't even in that conversation, you're almost hopeless in today's NBA.
Paul George can hold his own against LeBron. He can trade baskets and carry his team with LeBron. He can outplay LeBron for small stretches. He's not on LeBron's level but he can mimmic LeBron's level better than anyone else in the East. He's done it before in the playoffs. PG's supporting cast isn't nearly as good this year as it was back when Paul George went toe to toe with LeBron but maybe they can find lightening in a bottle for 7 games if Paul George goes crazy. It's a long shot yes, but LeBron dominates the Eastern Conference. It's going to take a long shot to take him down.
Another update on our tennis season. After dropping our season opener to Indianola, our girls then split the next two meets of the season; losing to Ballard 0-11 and beating Des Moines North 8-3. That's puts our season record at 1-2. Our only team meet this upcoming week is Monday when the Comets travel to Des Moines Hoover. Looking to get back to .500 before our North Polk Invitational Tournament on Saturday.
