Speaking of getting creative and shaking things up a bit, I went almost entirely all chalk with my B1G bracket. I think Wisconsin and Maryland have separated themselves as the two best teams in the conference and I don’t see that changing here in the next week. My only real upset I had was #13 Penn State over #5 Iowa on Day Two. But that has more to do with the “Never pick Iowa in a non-NIT bracket” rule I have than my actual perception of those teams. Although I do think Penn State will pose some troubles for Iowa in that game. I’m a big D.J. Newbill guy and even had him on my First-Team All-Big Ten team until I bumped him for Sam Dekker after the Badgers beat OSU in their regular season finale. Just thought for as much the Badgers dominated the conference this year they deserved two guys on first team. For those wondering, No….I did not have Aaron White on my B1G First Team.
My only other minor upset is #6 Ohio State over #3 Michigan State in the Quarters. I’ll admit I actually haven’t watched much of the Spartans this year so this pick might be based more on the fact I’ve seen more Ohio State games this year than Michigan State….but that still doesn’t mean I’m not right. Just doesn’t seem like Izzo has the type of team he generally has at this point in the year, so give me D’Angelo Russell here. He’s the one guy in this tournament who could put his team on his back for 4 days and take his team to the title, so I’ll take the upset here.
As for the title game, probably not a big shocker to where I’m leaning here. No upset from me as I have the Wisconsin Badgers defeating the Maryland Terrapins. 1 over 2, nothing drastic. I know Maryland is one of the two teams to hand Wisconsin a conference loss this year but so was Rutgers and I wouldn’t pick the Scarlett Knights to take down Bucky in the finals either. Wisconsin was head and shoulders above the rest of the league this year and I say that trend continues this week. The Badgers need to win this tournament to get a 1-seed in the NCAA tournament. Winning the B1G regular season and tournament would get that done in my opinion. More important than actually getting a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament for the Badgers is not getting the 2-seed in the Midwest Region with Kentucky. That seems to be the most likely scenario if Wisconsin is not a 1-seed. With those being the stakes, I think we see Bo and The Boys cut down the nets in Chicago on Sunday. Go Bucky.
