I've been thinking about this recently. How can we get people from "slightly interested" in the Miller Masters to "fully invested"? And how can we get as many people as possible fully invested? I mean, yeah, it's great that a highly popular and highly respected media outlet like Thoughts From The 808 would take the time to preview the event, but I still think we can go bigger. And then it hit me.....what makes fans fully invested in other professional sports? FANTASY SPORTS.
I would have liked to thought of this idea a little bit sooner and been able to put a little more thought into this but I think I have enough ready to implement this in 2015. I think as the years progress we'll be able fine tune this and make it much better but I'm excited to try it out this year.
Here's the ground rules. Each person who enters gets $100 budget to spend on their Miller Masters participants. You can spend it on as many or as few golfers as you'd like. You just need to stay within your $100 budget. I decided to go with a budget instead of just picking a team of golfers on your own because if we did that I'm pretty sure everyone would just pick the same four people: The Four Horsemen.
Combine all the points accumulated at the end of the day by the members of the team you assembled and the participant with the most points will be named the winner. Eventually maybe we make this into a year long contest adding in the Miller Open and the Miller Ryder Cup but let's see how this works out at the Miller Masters first. The winner will be sent a prize package directly from The 808. And I know what you're thinking, "But Alex, the winners of this year's #TwitterRumble haven't even received their prize package yet. How long will I have to wait to get my winnings?" Great question. I have no idea, but I'll get it to you at some point.
So to enter: Either list your team with your name in the comments section below, or tweet your team selections to either @808thoughts or @bollmeyer11. All entries need to be in by midnight on Saturday and I will post everyone's teams Sunday morning before the Miller Masters tees off. And I don't want to sound too desperate here, but I will anyways, but I'd really like as many people as possible in this. I'm hoping for like 20-30 entries. So please, if you have a couple minutes go ahead and fill out a roster even if you don't know us yet. You will in the future.
Here are the dollar amounts for each golfer in this year's Miller Masters. Remember, your budget is $100. You also must include your tiebreaker or the Individual Champion's winning score (Par 36).
