So I filled out my NHL bracket today and thought I would post it for everyone and give a preview of the upcoming playoffs. Fair warning, if you are looking for an actual preview from people you have, you know, actually watched hockey this year you may want to quit reading this right now and head to ESPN.com, Tim Cowlishaw’s Twitter account, or some other site that covers this. But if you are looking for random observations, bad Mighty Ducks jokes, or just general surface knowledge hockey Hot Takes then you came to the right spot. Onto the bracket.
Let’s move down to the Pacific Region. There are only 3 letters I need to let you know how this region is going to play out……U S A. Listen here Canada, I don’t care if you “invented” hockey or unlike the USA actually care about hockey, you’re about to get an American ass-kicking. Luckily for you guys though you have that whole “free health care” thing use afterwards to get you back to full health. So Winnapeg, Vancouver, and Calgary ----you’re going to have plenty of time to meet up at the local Tim Horton’s to talk abooot the latest Bieber track or argue over who’s shot the largest grizzly bear after the Ducks rock you guys harder than a skip throwing the hammer to clean up an end. That’s right, stick to curling losers. Eh?
Iowa-Iowa State situation where the little brother has grown successful and the big brother is basically an embarrassment to the family, the Rangers are the superior team in this scenario. So give me the Rangers to advance a round and the Islanders to lose their first round. But I don’t have the Rangers advancing any further as I’m taking the Washington Capitals to advance out of the Metropolitan region. Maybe I’m just riding a wave of patriotism after that last paragraph but give me the Caps here. I know Ovi is historically bad in the postseason but that’s gotta change sometime. And I took a vacation out to Washington D.C last year, so I’m assuming that’s a sign.
So we are left with the Chicago Blackhawks vs. the Anaheim Ducks and the Montreal Canadiens vs. the Washington Capitals. People that know me know that there is nothing in sports I hate more than bandwagon jumping but I think I might just do it here with the Canadiens. I love when I have a great idea and I really think the Iowa Americans is a home run, so the longer the Canadiens are in the playoffs the more opportunities I have to bring it up to people. So I’ll take the Montreal Canadians to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. The other matchup though is a little trickier and we may need to go a little more in depth on.
I’m a Chicago Blackhawks fan, it’s listed to the right there in my bio, but this matchup will scare me. I know the ‘Hawks are getting Patrick Kane back but you know Coach Bombay will have his team ready to go. There are some things in sports that teams just run so well that even when you know its coming, its still almost impossible to stop. Like Mariano Rivera’s cutter. Or Peyton Manning’s back-shoulder pass. Or Bo Ryan’s swing offense. You know what’s coming but you just can’t stop it because it’s executed so perfectly. Well, I guess that last one could be stopped with horrendous officiating but you get the picture. I think you have to put Gordon Bombay’s Flying-V in that same category.
