So once it was known that Hoiberg was going to leave the Cyclones after building the program back up and leading them into national prominence, I thought it was time to "strike while the iron was hot". I thought Iowa State had the opportunity to land a big-name coach or at least a coach with NBA ties that could continue to build what Hoiberg had built. I know there are risks high profile coaches and maybe getting a high profile coach to Ames wasn't even a possibility but I thought Iowa State isn't going to be in position too many times to have the opportunity to take that risk. This was a chance to make a leap and possibly turn into a perennial college basketball powerhouse. Maybe there was only a 10% chance it would work out that way, but I was really hoping Iowa State would take that risk.
And then Iowa State hired Steve Prohm.
Prohm was a mid-major coach from Murray State. A guy I'd never heard of, with no ties or connections to the NBA as far as I had heard. Not exactly what I was hoping for. I thought it was a bad hire. I thought it was a bad decision. I thought we could have done much, much better. I thought we were making a mistake.
But he was going to be the basketball coach to my alma mater, the team I have season tickets for and the team I watch all winter. I was going to wish and hope for the best. I had some serious reservations about his hire but maybe I was wrong. Maybe this hire ends up being a great selection and he leads Iowa State to great success. I would be thrilled with that outcome even if it meant I was wrong about him. I really hope he does well
I think he is a horrible choice to our President of the United States. I don't think he is qualified for the role and the thought of him making major decisions for our country and trying to collaborate with other nations worries me. I know this is a little bit of hyperbole but with all the crazy people and crazy dictators in the world the decisions President Trump makes and the actions he takes could literally lead to the end of the world. That's obviously the doomsday scenario but his actions will definitely lead to noticeable effects in our lives, the same way it's been for every other President in history. I think electing Donald Trump to be our President was a mistake.
At least if the Prohm hire doesn't work out, I'm just subject to a poor basketball season [Insert your own "Or just become a bigger Wisconsin basketball or some other new team you decide to start liking" joke here.] President Trump not working out for America, and the nation, could be catastrophic. Not just, President Trump did a poor job and we need to recover with the next President. With Donald Trump's personality, demeanor, and behavior it could be catastrophic. I'm worried.
But, hopefully I'm wrong. Hopefully just like with Coach Prohm, Donald Trump proves me wrong. I hope he succeeds. I hope he leads our nation in the right direction. I hope everything works out. Hopefully he does at least half of the things he forecasted he'd do during the primaries and election season. Washington and politics do probably need a change in the way it's operated, in my opinion. I don't think Donald Trump is the right type of change or direction we need to go but he could be. And I greatly hope that he does well.
But just like Iowa State in the Big 12....I'm worried.
